We are happy to announce the fall return of our popular “Tracking an Assassin” guided walking tour! Join us on September at 1 pm for Dave Taylor’s talk “Dr. Mudd on Trial” and stay for the waking tour at 2:30 pm. Walk on the historic route that John Wilkes Booth and David Herold used to enter the Zekiah Swamp!
The tour uses primary source accounts to retrace the footsteps of Booth and Herold as they exited the Mudd property on the night of April 15th. It also details the events that occurred on the farm in the days that followed, as well as what life on the farm was like in 1865.
These unique 1 hour guided walking tours take you to places rarely visited on the Mudd farm, including the banks of the Zekiah Swamp. The walk will last about 1 hour in length and covers approximately 1 mile of rolling country side. Proper footwear and attire is recommended, as well as bringing a supply of water.
The tour is included with the regular admission price to the museum. It is recommended that you take the museum tour prior to the waking tour, as it will help set the context for the stories you will hear on the walk.
The tour begins in the front yard of the house at the times listed above.
