The Dr. Samuel A. Mudd Society prides itself on being an entirely volunteer organization. We live by the mantra “many hands make light work.” Every year, the Society adds new volunteers to our outstanding team. If you would like to join, all you need to do is contact us! A brief description of available positions can be found below. All volunteers must be members of the Dr. Samuel A. Mudd Society, Inc.
Docents
Docents are volunteers who give guided tours of the Dr. Samuel A. Mudd House. They must be a least 18 years old. Docents are trained in the art of historic interpretation and in the history of the House and the Mudd family.
Junior Docents
Junior docents are volunteers who give help give guided tours of the Dr. Samuel A. Mudd House. They must be a least 16 years old. Junior docents are trained in the art of historic interpretation and in the history of the House and the Mudd family and aid veteran docents with the tours. This is great experience for students looking for volunteer hours!
Gift Shop Workers
Gift Shop Workers assist customers with purchases, answer questions, and keep the gift shop in a neat and orderly fashion. They are requested to wear an authentic costume of the period.
Admissions Persons
Admissions Persons greet visitors, collect admissions and to assist in opening and closing of the grounds. They should wear a dress shirt and dress pants. Since they make the first contact with the visitors they should be courteous and polite.
General Maintenance
General maintenance workers assist with general repairs to the house, outbuildings, fencing, etc. They also help with yard maintenance such as mowing, weed whacking, leaf raking, weeding, etc.
Marketing/Advertising
Help use market and advertise our product both physically and online. Help design campaigns to “share the word” about our work and help with fundraising. Help make advertisements about special events.
