The Dr. Samuel A. Mudd Society prides itself on being an entirely volunteer organization. We live by the mantra “many hands make light work.” Every year, the Society adds new volunteers to our outstanding team. If you would like to join, all you need to do is contact us! A brief description of available positions can be found below. All volunteers must be members of the Dr. Samuel A. Mudd Society, Inc.

Docents

Docents are costumed volunteers who give guided tours of the Dr. Samuel A. Mudd House. They must be a least 18 years old and must wear an authentic costume of the period. Docents are trained in the art of historic interpretation and in the history of the House and the Mudd family.

Gift Shop Workers

Gift Shop Workers assist customers with purchases, answer questions, and keep the gift shop in a neat and orderly fashion. They are requested to wear an authentic costume of the period.

Admissions Persons

Admissions Persons greet visitors, collect admissions and to assist in opening and closing of the grounds. They should wear a dress shirt and dress pants. Since they make the first contact with the visitors they should be courteous and polite.

General Maintenance

 General maintenance workers assist with general repairs to the house, outbuildings, fencing, etc. They also help with yard maintenance such as mowing, weed whacking, leaf raking, weeding, etc.
